TaxCurb Privacy: Your Data and W-2 Scanning Choices
Learn how TaxCurb’s privacy policy describes saved filing data, private form storage, optional W-2 scanning, provider retention, and your choices.
TaxCurb privacy and W-2 scanning choices deserve a clear explanation before you share a tax document. Our Privacy Policy describes the information used to prepare forms, the providers involved, and your options. This guide highlights the decisions you can make while using the product.
What saved filing information is used for
The Privacy Policy describes account details, filing information, generated forms, payment records, and communications. It explains that sensitive saved identifiers are encrypted and that generated forms are kept in private, access-controlled storage. Review the policy for the full description of safeguards and retention.
A generated tax PDF can include the complete information required by the form. Treat downloaded copies as sensitive records too. Decide where you will store them and who needs access before sharing a file with a preparer or adviser.
Choose whether to use W-2 scanning
W-2 scanning is optional. If you upload a W-2 for scanning, the document is sent to Reducto to extract form fields. TaxCurb holds the upload in server memory for the request rather than saving the original upload in its own storage. The document sent to the provider can still contain your identification and wage information.
The Privacy Policy explains that Reducto receives and stores the file under its own terms and retention practices, and that TaxCurb’s current integration has no documented deletion capability for those stored files. You can enter W-2 information manually instead if you prefer not to send the document for scanning.
Review extracted information before using it
Scanning is a data-entry aid. Compare the entered amounts and employer details with the original document, and correct any transcription error before continuing. Our flow requires you to enter the employee SSN yourself; omitting it from extracted fields does not remove it from an uploaded document already sent to the provider.
Keep the original W-2 so you can resolve an unclear box later. If you contact support, start with the field name and a description of the issue rather than emailing the entire document.
Ask about your information
Read the retention and privacy-request sections of the Privacy Policy for details. Use the published team contacts to ask about access, correction, or deletion. What can be deleted depends on the record, the provider, and applicable retention obligations; a request should identify what you want the team to review.
What to do next
Review the policy, choose manual entry or optional scanning, and keep the generated forms in a place appropriate for sensitive tax records.
